“Music has been the only constant from my childhood to the current phase of Motherhood. Learning, singing and teaching music is my passion and I truly cherish every moment of it. As a student of Carnatic Music, I have realized that with the right zest and quest to learn one can create the most memorable and beautiful art. I am extremely blessed to have learnt from such exceptional gurus and continue to be mentored by great minds who nurture both my professional and personal life. Smt. Shobana Srinivasan is a Carnatic Music Student, Teacher, Vocalist & a Performer residing in Sugar Land, Texas, USA. Her musical journey began at the age of 8 in Chennai, India and continues miles away from the home of Carnatic Music until this day. What began as a fun-filled learning experience during her childhood, has turned into a passionate quest for musical knowledge. She started teaching music to students in 2012 as a hobby and ended up enjoying her time spent with young children, who were more than eager to learn the art form. This enabled her to find creative ways to keep them engaged and at the same time have fun learning. She encouraged students to engage in various musical projects and write articles for the academy’s newsletters. She is also a visiting faculty at Gokulam Arts Family, a non-profit organization for promoting arts.

Music is a journey and one that never ends. She is currently under the tutelage of Kalaimamani Smt. Vidya Subramanian, disciple of esteemed violinist late Sri. Lalgudi G. Jayaraman. She began her initial training in Shri Krishna Music School in Chennai and continued with many gurus including Vidhushi Smt. T. Moham, All India Radio artist Vidhushi Smt. Krishnaveni. She is extremely blessed to have learnt from Vidhushi Smt. Rajarajeshwari Bhat in Houston, Texas who has been a great source of support and encouragement.

Kumari. Shriya Vikas

Adjunct Faculty

Shriya Vikas is a sophomore at UT Austin, majoring in Biomedical Engineering. She is an accomplished young Carnatic vocalist and educator, immersed in this artform for 12+ years. Shriya is a disciple of Vidushi Smt. Shobana Srinivasan and Vidushi Smt. Vidya Gangadharan. She has performed on numerous national and international platforms (including the Malaysia International Carnatic Music Festival, Loka Kshema Satsang, World Forum for Art and Culture, Cleveland Tyagaraja Festival, Veenadhari Institute of Music and Fine Arts, and Nadopasana). Shriya has won over 20 prestigious honors and awards for her vocal renditions as well as for her educational research and multimedia presentations on Carnatic music concepts. With experience on prominent concert platforms and a deep commitment to making Carnatic music both accessible and exciting for today’s learners, Shriya aims to thoughtfully reinforce and refine core concepts, mentor students, and nurture their growth throughout their musical journeys.
