Carnatic Music, also known as ‘Karñat̃aka Sangeetham’, is believed to have originated from the Sama Veda. It is popular in the southern states of India and has rich values, traditions and history. The art form is celebrated each year in grandeur for the entire month of December, during the Margazhi Festival in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
Students are introduced to the basics of Carnatic Music, the basic theory on the origin of Carnatic Music, more about the swaras or notes, sthaayis or octaves.
The syllabus covered in this level are Introduction to Adhi Talam, Sarale Varisai, Janta Varisai, Tara Sthayi Varisai, Mandra Sthayi, 2 bhajans, 2 notusvarams.
The focus will be on the sruthi, talam and speed change.
This level is taught only in groups. The group size will be 1:5 ratio. Group learning helps students meet like-minded peers and feel motivated by each other.
The class duration is 1 hour.

Students are introduced to the Datu Varisais (skipping combinations) and to the various concepts of Talams in Alankarams. They will be mastering the Sapta Talas in 3 Speeds.
Students will learn some more notusvarams of Dikshithar, simple keerthanas of Tyagaraja, namavalis and shlokas.
Students will also start learning Geethams at this level.
In theory students will be introduced to the life and contributions of great composers of all times, the trinities of carnatic music.

The class duration is 1 hour.
This is a 15 week Fall session starting from August 5, 2024.

Students will advance to the next level in Geethams and understand the characteristics of various ragams.
Students will be introduced to Jatiswarams, a composition with intricate patterns of rhythmic notes.
Students will be taught simple keerthanams (songs) on various deities.
This level is taught only in groups. The group size will be 1:5 ratio. Group learning helps students meet like-minded peers and feel motivated by each other.
The class duration is 1 hour.
This is a 15 week Fall session starting from August 5, 2024.

Students will advance to the next level and learn Swarajathis.
Students will begin learning Varnams, the most important type of compositions in Carnatic Music.
Students will be taught simple krithis of the Trinities.
This level is taught only in groups. The group size will be 1:4 ratio. Group learning helps students meet like-minded peers and feel motivated by each other.
The class duration is 1 hour.
This is a 15 week Fall session starting from August 5, 2024.

Students will continue to learn Varnams of various composers and ragams.
Students will learn one or two Ata Tala Varnams.
This level includes Varnams and Krithis of advanced level (Vilamba Kalam), compositions of various composers including Tillanas.
This level is taught only in groups. The group size will be 1:3 ratio. Group learning helps students meet like-minded peers and feel motivated by each other.
The duration is 1 hour.
