The Bhakthi Movement in the 7th and 8th century began in the southern part of India, especially in the state of Tamil Nadu, when the Shaivite, Vaishnavite and many other poets wrote hymns and songs on their favorite deities. Singing the mere hymns, bhajans and shlokas with utmost devotion to the lord was believed to be the means to salvation. Music is an effective tool to express one's emotions and also convey the message to a wider audience. Overtime, ‘Nama Sankeerthanam’, singing the many names and praises of gods and goddesses became more popular, as audiences could easily relate and connect with the common subject - ‘bhakthi’.
Students between the age of 7 and 17 are taught simple bhajans, songs & slokas on various deities.
Students can also learn Ashtapadis, Tarangams, simple keerthanams of many composers including Purandaradasa, Annamacharya, Bhadrachala Ramadasa, and many others based on their level of understanding.
